_Tempo_

## Tempo, alongside plant supervisors.

Review shift assignments, ask about outstanding maintenance and prepare staffing changes with Tempo. Available data, actions and approvals depend on your setup.

[Meet Tempo](https://www.skedulo.com/product/tempo/)

_Illustration: Skedulo Tempo working an equipment fault at Northgate Plant: Line 2's conveyor drive bearing seizes at 10:12 AM with 11 of 18 pallets still to run for the 4:00 PM truck. The issue lands in red on a blank screen and becomes the task's header; Tempo reads the downtime alert, the maintenance technicians on shift and the drive's history, and the context panel opens on the line and the time to the truck. Tempo picks Marco Salazar, who can pause a lubrication round, over Kevin on Press 4's tool change; it sends Marco, moves Carol and Bridget to Line 3's changeover and reserves the bearing._

_Why this is hard_

## A full shift can still be missing a critical skill.

Headcount is only part of the plan. Each shift also needs the right skills for production, changeovers, quality checks, and work carried over from the previous team.

### A filled roster can hide a skills gap

Enough people are scheduled, but a required operator qualification or task-specific skill is missing.

_Illustration: A Skedulo shift drawer's Requirements, open: Kevin Maszaros, Fitter, 24h of 30h booked, on the shift, with Fitter trade certificate and First Aid certificate checked, and Forklift licence left unchecked - renewal due before this shift_

### Changeovers need people and preparation

Switching products takes setup work, checks, and people who know the next job. Those assignments need to line up with the changeover.

_Illustration: Skedulo web messaging card for a group message titled Mark Doherty, Gloria Benitez, Odette Ferreira beside their three photos: Mark asks Gloria, Odette - all set for the Line 2 changeover at 2:40?, Odette answers Yes. Kevin has the change parts at the line., and Gloria replies Thanks - I'll start the clean when the run ends._

### Essential tasks need time in the shift

Quality checks, cleaning, and planned maintenance need qualified people and time alongside production work.

_Illustration: Skedulo mobile inspection form card: Enclosure intact and Labels legible marked Pass, then Isolator latches off marked Fail, and a dashed section opens under it - the Issue field, typed in as Isolator will not latch off, and a Fault photo field that takes its requirement: its empty tile turns rose and reads Required to submit_

### Filling one gap can create another

Moving an employee to cover an absence can leave another line or task short of the skills it needs to run.

_Illustration: A Skedulo cover request card for Line 2: Carol Ng cannot work Wed 5 (unavailable - family), her 6am - 2pm morning shift; under it two who can cover - Gloria Benitez with a green tick (available, rest 16h OK) and Doug Lindqvist with an amber warning (would hit 38h max) - the Manufacturing Award line checked, then Approve is pressed and the foot turns green: Confirmed, Carol notified_

### Unfinished work crosses shifts

The incoming team needs to know which checks, repairs, and follow-up tasks are still open, and who’s responsible.

_Illustration: Skedulo mobile shift handover form card: Line 2 rounds at 9:30pm and the cell 3 guard sensor replaced are ticked done, Hydraulic oil low is marked Open in amber, and a dashed section opens under it - Status, Reordered; Impact, Spare in use; and Responsible for the next step, Doug Lindqvist, with his photo_

## Production staffing and supporting work.

_[ 01 ]_

### Roles & task requirements

Identify production roles, changeovers, quality checks, cleaning, and maintenance tasks that need staffing.

_Illustration: Skedulo demand forecast panel for Line 2 at Northgate Plant, Sat 8 to Fri 14 Mar: drivers fed in (Production orders 28 open, Pallets planned 64 a day, a Product trial on Sat 8 Mar as an event band x1.2 operators), translations as chips (1 operator per 4 machines, Minimum 2 per line, Operating hours 6am - 10pm), and the Line Operator forecast in hours as a pastel range, a target line and planned bars, every day met. The trial run applies: Saturday's target climbs above its bar, the gap fills in amber, and the foot ticks to Required 20, Planned 19, To fill 1, cost $64,020 of $68,000 within cap_

_[ 02 ]_

### Skills & availability

Check skills, qualifications, and availability for each role and task.

_Illustration: Skedulo scheduling for JOB-4803, the quarterly line audit, Wed 13 Aug, 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Pending allocation. Needs: Lockout tagout, 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Denver Metro. Who can do it: Gloria Benitez, Senior Technician, best match, ticked for Lockout tagout, Free from 3:30 PM, 27 min away and Denver Metro; Doug Lindqvist busy until 4:15 PM; Aaron Feldman busy until 4:30 PM. The pointer presses Assign Gloria: the button turns to Assigned, her card takes the selection ring, the status becomes Pending dispatch, assigned by Mark Doherty, Tue 12 Aug, 2:40 PM._

_[ 03 ]_

### Shifts & task allocation

Account for production coverage and the time people need for setup, checks, and planned maintenance.

_Illustration: Skedulo roster builder for Line 2 at Northgate Plant, Sat 1 to Fri 7 Mar: three shift template cards - Morning 6am - 2pm, Afternoon 2pm - 10pm, Night 10pm - 6am - over a seven-day mini roster. The week builds day by day for Carol Ng, Line Operator, and Kevin Maszaros, Fitter, and the open lane's Sunday afternoon Line Operator cell sits dashed. Under it two paths: Allocate, Bridget Hanley with Available, Qualified and Award OK ticked, and Offer, Targeted 4 eligible, respond in 12 h, first to accept. Allocate fires: the cell goes solid with her initials and the panel reads Allocated_

_[ 04 ]_

### Mobile instructions

Share task locations, instructions, and required checklists on mobile.

_Illustration: Skedulo mobile job details on an iPhone in signal at 4:36: under the blue app bar, the quarterly line audit, JOB-4803, at Northgate Plant, the map of 1160 Pioneer Way, Denver, and the job in progress. Under Tasks, Test emergency lighting (done at 4:12 PM) and Tag out isolator AST-1152 (done at 4:24 PM) are ticked and each marked SYNCED in green, so the worker can see what went through; Replace fire door closer is still open_

_[ 05 ]_

### Reassignment & coverage

Check what an absence or reassignment leaves uncovered before moving people between lines or tasks.

_Illustration: Skedulo roster change card headed Move Doug Lindqvist, Mon 3: his morning shift (6am - 2pm, dashed) moving to the afternoon (2pm - 10pm), an arrow between. Under it the impact, evaluated before confirming, in three blocks: Cost +$46, 2h overtime at 1.5x; Policy, min rest 10h is 16h, Pass in green, and max weekly 38h would be 40h, Warn in amber, the block turning amber; Approval routes to Jen Alvarez, Scheduling Manager. Then Cancel and a primary button that re-labels from Confirm to Request approval_

_[ 06 ]_

### Work records & shift handover

Capture hours, completed tasks, and unresolved issues so the next shift knows what needs attention.

_Illustration: Skedulo mobile handover page on an iPhone for JOB-4803, the quarterly line audit at Northgate Plant, to Aaron Feldman: under Completed, the site checklist submitted and signed lands, then two open tasks with their owners: replace the isolator on AST-1152 (Aaron Feldman, JOB-4871, Friday 15 August) and close out the permit before it expires (Helen Pryor). A two-line handover note is typed - the isolator tagged out, the plant room key with Facilities - and Send handover becomes a green notice: sent at 5:24pm_

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is manufacturing workforce scheduling?

Manufacturing workforce scheduling assigns people to production shifts and to the work around production, such as changeovers, cleaning, quality checks and planned maintenance. It checks that each shift has the required skills and certifications, not just enough headcount, and shows what moving one person would leave uncovered on another line or task.

### Can Skedulo schedule workers by certification and production role?

Yes. Schedulers match workers to roles using recorded skills, certifications, availability and site requirements. Your organization maintains those records and sets the assignment rules, so a full roster with a missing qualification shows up before the shift starts.

### Can the same plan include shifts and mobile maintenance or quality work?

Yes. Production staffing and tasks such as changeover preparation, maintenance and quality checks are planned together. Supervisors see each person's existing assignments before moving them, and unresolved work is recorded for the next shift's handoff.

### Can workers complete forms and tasks on mobile?

Yes. Workers can read instructions, complete checklists, record readings, and update task status on mobile. Supervisors review the results and assign follow-up; any automated corrective-work steps need to be configured for your process.

### Does Skedulo replace a CMMS or MES?

No. A CMMS remains the system for asset records, work order history and spare parts, and an MES runs production execution. Skedulo schedules the people across shifts, maintenance and quality tasks, including technicians who travel to customer or remote sites, and shares workforce data, task results and recorded hours with ERP, MES, CMMS, QMS and payroll systems through integrations.

### Can one team schedule maintenance and quality work across several plants?

Yes. Plants can be organized as separate regions or locations, so a central planner sees every plant's shifts, maintenance and quality tasks in one plan. Technicians who cover more than one plant are scheduled across sites with the travel between them planned.
