Sunrun is a US-based provider of retail solar electricity serving 22 states plus DC and Puerto Rico. With Sunrun’s residential rooftop solar, storage, and energy services, homeowners can save money while dramatically reducing the amount of air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions they release into the atmosphere.
With hundreds of solar advisors in hundreds of retail locations, Sunrun partners with grocery stores and home improvement stores to educate customers on the benefits of solar energy. They help people understand their energy needs, see if they qualify for a solar installation, and then set up in-home appointments on the spot with a solar expert.
Before Skedulo, Sunrun’s scheduling supervisors used a variety of manual, ad-hoc scheduling methods, including Excel, Google sheets, and email. “From a leadership perspective, we didn’t have visibility into what was going on in the field — what stores we were staffing that day, who was supposed to be there, or whether they were showing up,” says Ellen Jokerst, retail scheduling coordinator at Sunrun.

Spreading Light on Expanding Operations
Sunrun wanted a solution that integrated with their Salesforce CRM instance and provided the right functionality that would scale as they dispatched more solar advisors to more locations. The team wanted visibility into what was happening that day with their employees staffed at retail locations. And the regional managers needed a much simpler and more reliable way to schedule their teams. Skedulo’s mobile workforce management solution was the right fit for Sunrun’s growing retail operations.

Today, Skedulo makes it easier for Sunrun to schedule their solar advisors across their retail locations and strengthen their relationships with retailers. “We’re in hundreds of stores across the US, so we needed a tool so that we could see where our solar advisors were and whether they were checked in,” says Jokerst. “Attendance is very important to maintaining those retail partnerships.”
Not only does Skedulo help Sunrun to manage their retail operations at scale, Skedulo also helps them to understand their mobile employee performance at a more detailed level. “With Skedulo, now we can dial into a specific solar advisor at a specific store and compare their hours worked and performance against the rest of the team,” says Jokerst. “We can have a better understanding of the best fit for the right person at the right store at the right time.”
At the greater business level, Skedulo provides visibility into what’s happening in the field and drives key decision making towards operational efficiency. “Our management really loves it,” Jokerst says. “It helps us to know whether we need to increase support or headcount in a certain area. Sunrun believes that Skedulo is a key partner in advancing their mission of a world powered by the sun. “It’s really allowed us to scale. We had a drastic increase in our foothold and a drastic expansion and Skedulo was able to scale right there with us,” says Jokerst.

Sunrun’s team now spends less time scheduling and more time with customers to better understand their energy needs. “By enabling us to scale our retail footprint and schedule it efficiently, we are able to get in front of more homeowners to sell more solar battery and backup systems,” says Haines.
